Congratulations to Pemberton Valley Lodge and The International Centre!
With the 2016 Hotel Association of Canada Conference rapidly approaching, we wanted to take this opportunity to recognize two outstanding facilities who will be awarded our Green Key Energy & Environment Award; and our Green Key Meetings Award respectively. We encourage you to do so as well!
The Green Key Energy & Environment Award goes to Pemberton Valley Lodge this year. Pemberton Valley Lodge has achieved a 5 Green Key Eco-Rating and has been audited to benchmark placement. Their initiatives, including an automated system that will regulate heating and cooling based on occupancy, will not only reduce energy consumption by 15% – 40% but will lower overall costs and maintenance upkeep.
They were also one of the first in the region to install an Electric Vehicle Charging Station and was a successful recipient of the first round of Provincial grants to begin a network of charging station across the province.
They are regularly monitoring their carbon footprint and have set annual goals of reducing their impact. Find out more about their initiatives here.
The Green Meetings Award goes to The International Centre, who have taken great strides to reduce energy usage and improve efficiencies of operations. Their 8,000 sq. ft. kitchen includes high-efficiency equipment that includes appliances that are 40% more efficient, using approximately 80% less water as well. In addition to their kitchen, all of their internal meetings with clients are Bullfrog Powered, and they also offer the option of using alternative energy to clients for their events.
In the last 2 years, they have completed major lighting retrofit projects including upgrades to LEDs in their 48,000 sq. ft. Conference Centre with a total savings of over 300,000-kilowatt hours. Additionally, the Aviation Ballrooms totaling 15,500 square feet were upgraded to LEDs, with a total savings of over 23,000-kilowatt hours.
