Soap for Hope Canada expands access to good hygiene through the redistribution of repurposed hygiene products (soap bars, shampoo bottles, etc.) and retired products (linens, robes, slippers) sourced from more than 100 hotel community partners. Staff and volunteers reprocess these products for re-use in urban shelters, community facilities and remote communities. SfHC is significantly extending the use of hygiene products through redistribution that reduces the volumes of these products that would otherwise end up in landfill sites.
In 2020, Soap for Hope Canada processed more than 91,537 pounds of products (52,306 kilograms) thanks to just over 17,000 volunteer hours logged last year that saw the distribution of more than 1.3 million items to individuals who needed them.
By retrieving these gently used hygiene items from their Caring Community Partners, participating hotels can reduce their waste and environmental footprints. By working together, you are extending the use of hygiene products and reducing the waste that would otherwise be heading to local landfills.
RECYLED FROM HOTELS > THROUGH REPROCESSING > TO THOSE IN NEED
In addition to these repurposed hotel hygiene items, generous financial support provided by individuals, businesses, foundations and other organizations enables them to maintain and expand warehouse distribution facilities, direct-purchase family size and other hygiene items for no-cost distribution to those who need it and expand their service geographies during times of crisis and community emergencies.
